Zborovice is a village and municipality (obec) in Kroměříž District in the Zlín Region of the Czech Republic. The municipality covers an area of 12.47 square kilometres (4.81 sq mi), and has a population of 1,594 (as at 28 August 2006). Zborovice lies approximately 10 kilometres (6 mi) south-west of Kroměříž, 28 km (17 mi) west of Zlín, and 227 km (141 mi) south-east of Prague.

History

The first written mention of Zborovice is from 1276, but settlement in the area extends far further into the past. This has been proven by archaeological excavations in a nearby village, 10th century earrings and rings were found. In 1881, a rail line was built to Kroměříž for the transportation of sugar pulp.[1]

Administration

The administrative division of Zborovice is called the Municipal Office of Zborovice, the current mayor is Jaromir Kunc.[2]

Education

There is a school, simply called Skola Zborovice (Zborovice School).[3][4]
