Yvonne DeLaRosa is an American actress, best known for her role on the Imagen award-winning series Los Americans, Yvonne has appeared in films such as Helter Skelter, Mystery Woman: Snapshot, and The Sorrow, in addition to landing roles on TV shows, including How I Met Your Mother, NCIS (TV series), Weeds, and The King of Queens. She has been heralded as 'The face of the new wave of Latino talent' by Jimmy Smits. She is also a serial entrepreneur of two successive cannabis dispensaries.
Personal life
Born to a Colombian mother and Native American father, DeLaRosa began studying theater at the age of five.[1] After graduating from the Performing Arts School at Hollywood High, she studied film at UCLA while continuing to flourish under legendary acting coach Jeff Corey. Yvonne dedicates her time to environmental causes and animal rights activism. She currently lives in Malibu with her husband, award winning film maker Sam Boyer, and their entourage of rescued animals.
Career
DeLaRosa first came to attention after comedy director Betty Thomas discovered her and cast her as the series lead in the 2003 FOX series, Senor White.[2] DeLaRosa then appeared in hit TV shows such as NYPD Blue, Judging Amy, The King of Queens, The Closer, Weeds, Eli Stone and How I Met Your Mother.[2] DeLaRosa appears in the 2010 film, Oscar Night. She accepted the Imagen Award in 2009 for the play 8 Ways to Say I Love My Life & Mean It. Most recently, Yvonne is the lead actress opposite Latin Icon Esai Morales in the Imagen nominated series Los Americans. The series, written by Dennis Leoni and produced by Robert Townsend, is the story of a modern, affluent, suburban Mexican-American family living in the United States.
Cannabis Entrepreneurship
Along with her husband Boyer, DeLaRosa started the 99 High Art Collective, a combination visionary art gallery and medical cannabis dispensary in Venice, CA's Abbot Kinney district. It garnered a LA Weekly Best of 2010 designation[3] and press in Rolling Stone and High Times before closing in 2011. They later reopened in 2015 as 99 High Tide Collective on 27755 Pacitic Coast Highway in Malibu on 420, landing Tommy Chong as the first official patient.[4]
