Yuji Sakamoto (坂本優二, Sakamoto Yūji) is a Japanese adult video (AV) director who has directed more than 250 videos during his career,[1] primarily with the Alice Japan studio.[2]

Life and career

Sakamoto began directing in the AV industry at least as early as November 1994 with the video Wet Venus, starring Saori Miyauchi, for the Media Station Cosmos label.[3] The next month, December 1994, marked the first video directed by Sakamoto listed at the Alice Japan archive. This work, Indecent Eye (淫ら眼), starred Shana (釈那) as a 900-year-old witch who has sex with and then kills men to retain her youth.[4] This would begin Sakamoto's long association with Alice Japan and be the first of the more than 170 videos that he had directed for that company through 2011, twenty-eight of them featuring superstar AV Idol Yuma Asami.[2]

By 1995, in addition to his Alice Japan videos, he was also working for Max-A,[1] another company associated with Alice Japan and Media Station in the Kuki group.[5] One of his Max-A videos was the October 1996 Pin Pin Girl for the Calen label, which marked the AV debut of actress Jun Kusanagi.[6][7] He also presided over the AV debuts of Asami Jō for Alice Japan in 1995[8][9] and Akira Watase in the May 2000 Media Station release Venus.[10][11]

In a departure from the AV field, Sakamoto wrote and directed the V-Cinema drama Message: Hakanaki shoujo no shi (Message 儚なき少女の詩), which was released in April 1999.[12][13]

When the S1 No. 1 Style studio was launched in November 2004, Sakamoto was one of their inaugural directors along with Hideto Aki, [Jo]Style and KINGDOM.[14] Sakamoto has also directed for other major Japanese AV studios, including Soft On Demand (SOD), Moodyz and Attackers.[1] Among other work at SOD, he directed two entries in the company's "Masturbation Aid" series, starring Sally Yoshino and Nao Oikawa.[15] He also supervised three episodes in the Attackers studio "Lady Panther" series, Lady Panther Vol. 4 with Riko Tachibana (May 2006), Lady Panther Vol. 5 with An Nanba (Feb. 2007), and Lady Panther Vol. 6 starring Maria Ozawa and Hikari Hino (Jan. 2008).[16]
