Youth Square (Chinese: 青年廣場), formerly known as Hong Kong Centre for Youth Development (香港青年發展中心) is a youth activities complex in Hong Kong. It is located at 238 Chai Wan Road, Chai Wan on Hong Kong Island. It is owned by Home Affairs Bureau of Hong Kong Government.  The construction of Youth Square commenced in 2001 and was completed in 2008. The building is managed and operated by New World Facilities Management Company Limited since 2010.

Design and Architecture

The architectural design of Youth Square comes from the winning entry of the Architectural Design Competition jointly organised by the Hong Kong Government and the Hong Kong Institute of Architects.[1]

The fluid and translucent glass wall façade bridges the gap between indoor and outdoor spaces, and exterior glass walls are finished with frosted raindrop and wave designs.

Facilities

Youth Square comprises a 15-storey main block and a 12-level hostel block with a 148-room hostel.

Y Theatre

Total of 643 seats in stalls and balcony suitable for culture and entertainment activities, conferences, lectures and events of different natures.

Plaza

Plaza is an open area that suitable for all kinds of public performances. Its design encourages interaction between the performers and the audiences.

Y Platform

Total area of 1,000 sq meter which can be divided into five different zones. Gently inclined walkway allows full view of outdoor performance and exhibition.

Y Studio

Transformable space to a versatile black box theatre with 224 seats or an open space that holds about 500 persons.

Y Mart

The space for organizations focusing on youth development

Y Loft

The hostel operated by Youth Square, with total of 148 guest room.

Y Loft

The 148-room Y Loft is located in Youth Square’s Main Block and Hostel Block. Various room selection includes Accessible Rooms which designed for disabilities with widened corridor and more space.
