My 600-lb Life is a reality television series currently airing on TLC. Each episode follows a year in the life of a morbidly obese person (who starts the episode weighing around 600 pounds (270 kg)) and their attempts to reduce their weight to a healthy level, usually with the assistance of gastric bypass surgery or Sleeve gastrectomy performed by Houston-area surgeon Younan Nowzaradan. Nowzaradan's (nicknamed Dr. Now) clinic featured on the show is located at 4009 Bellaire Boulevard in Houston and surgeries are performed at the Foundation Surgical Hospital of Houston.
This series was originally a 5-part miniseries involving 4 morbidly obese patients. Because of its popularity, new episodes were filmed including a "Where Are They Now?" retrospective in Season 4.
In the first season, patients were filmed over a period of 7 years from 2004 to 2011. Starting with the second season, patients were filmed for only 1 year.
Beginning with season 5, new episodes will be filmed as 2 hour episodes instead of 1 hour episodes. This was previously done with Melissa's Story (split into 2 parts) and Lupe's Story. Recap episodes titled under "Supersized" and "Extended" which include additional facts and footage respectively will also air during this season
As of March 17, 2017, all but one of the patients involved in this series are still alive despite their potentially life-threatening condition of morbid obesity. Henry Foots, who was featured in season 1, died of an illness unrelated to his weight loss surgery in 2013.
