Cast

Production

A. R. Reihana announced that she would debut as a producer with a fantasy comedy film during July 2015 and revealed that newcomer Azhar and Sanchita Shetty would play the lead roles. Reihana picked Vignesh Karthick to direct the film, and revealed that she was motivated to become a producer in order to make sure her music is better picturised on screen.[3][4] The film was shot throughout late 2015 and 2016, with the title Yenda Thalaiyila Yenna Vekkala announced after production was completed. It is rumoured that Reihana's actor-composer son, G. V. Prakash Kumar, would portray a small role in the film.[5] However this has yet to be confirmed.

Viral Marketing Campaign

Yenda Thalaiyila Yenna Vekkala has used a viral marketing campaign, generating much buzz from the online community. As a result of this, Tamil students in overseas college and university campuses have started an online campaign to release the film in countries such as England and Canada.

Pre-Release Reception

Early test-screenings of the film have received positive reviews. Viewers have praised Azhar and Sanchita Shetty's on screen chemistry and comedic performance as genuinely infectious and laugh-out-loud funny. One critic is quoted as saying, "in an industry where each comedy film has the same generic story with the same tiresome jokes, Yenda Thalaiyila Yenna Vekkala manages to revitalise the genre in a refreshing and effortless manner." Film critic V.K. Rajesh Rajan has said "When I heard this was a fantasy comedy, I was not sure what exactly to expect. Gladly, my expectations have been exceeded. I hope more film makers follow the example set by Director Karthick Sir, by taking more creative risks in their artistry".

Soundtrack

The music for Yenda Thalaiyila Yenna Vekkala has been composed by A. R. Reihana. The online community has praised her ability to seamlessly switch between musical styles so as to best compliment the narrative of the story. Director Karthick says, "...the music really creates a cinematic atmosphere, it grabs the audience and makes them feel like they're a character within the film. Clearly the soundtrack was made with the audience's experience at heart." Several twitter users point out similarities in the musical styles between A. R. Rahman and his sister A. R. Reihana, stating an ear for good music obviously runs in the family.

Social Impact

Many media outlets are praising producers A. R. Reihana and Subha Thambi Pillai for helping to empower women in the workplace. The Tamil-Canadian newspaper published an article saying, "Historically, the business world of the film industry has been male dominant. However, A. R. Reihana and Subha T. Pillai are showing people everywhere that women are more than capable of coordinating large scale projects, negotiating intelligent business deals and maintaining artistic quality. Hopefully, this opens the doors for more women to realise their true potential in the workplace."
