Critical reception

The Daily News and Analysis web team wrote "The duo are back to creating magic with a soulful song, 'Yeh Ishq Hai' from the film 'Rangoon.' With Arijit singing the song, he has added more soul to it, by giving a treat to the audiences with a passionate number."[2]

"Times of India" in its review wrote, "'Ye Ishq Hai' is a romantic number that features Kangana's passionate love for Shahid. The stunning couple can be seen embraced in intense lovemaking. Meanwhile, the song also throws light on Kangana's forced and half-hearted romance with Saif Ali Khan. The fresh pairing and the interesting love triangle comes as a whiff of fresh air." ... "Arijit Singh adds soul to this hummable track penned by Gulzar with music by none other than director Vishal Bhardwaj himself."[4]

"Firstpost" in its review wrote, "this one is from the Bhardwaj school of music. It has a hypnotic tune and a meditative pace. Vishal has not mixed many musical instruments. He has rather chosen to keep it simple and has limited his range to string musical instruments, from acoustic guitar to the Burmese harp, staying true to its setting of Myanmar (then-Rangoon). Arijit Singh's voice is a musical instrument in its own right. Whenever the singer is quite, his voice is aptly replaced by a flute." ... "The song compares the emotion of love to a candle which refuses to die even if it stands alone against the winds of time. This metaphor is shown brilliantly in the visuals when Ranaut's character lights up a candle."[5]
