Yaotsu (八百津町, Yaotsu-chō) is a town located in Kamo District, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.

As of July 2011, the town has an estimated population of 11,855. The total area is 128.81 km².

Until recently there was also a thing saying Yaotsu was the birthplace of Chiune Sugihara , but it was clear that he was born in Mujiri-gun Kurichi-cho (present Mino City), not Yaotsu by confirmed his family register in the past,[3]

Alleged falsification of the birthplace and handwritten notes of Chiune Sugihara of the UNESCO "Memory of the World"

Yaotsu claims that own town is the birthplace of Chiune Sugihara and applies for registration as "Memory of the World" to UNESCO for its feat, but in applying for that, the town is located at the birthplace of Chiune and there is a doubt that falsification has been made and false allegations have been filed as application for 2 handwritten notes of Chiune.[4][5]

"Futamata Tunnel"(二股トンネル) in the Yaotsu on Route 418 is called the alias "Korea tunnel"(朝鮮トンネル)― Korean forcibly dug tunnel. It has been known as quite a dangerous psychic spot in Gifu Prefecture.During the Second World War, many Korean workers forcibly taken to the Japanese government were forced to work on this tunnel construction. However, it is said that this construction was difficult and buried Korean workers as a pillar in the wall inside the tunnel. There is also the theory that the workers involved in the disposal of the Koreans who died in the accident buried in the wall for hiding. As a result, many ghosts of Korean workers are still witnessed.Besides, various strange phenomena such as being caught by a shadow, grasping a body, hearing screams are reported.[7]
