XYLO (stylised as XYLØ) is an American electronic music duo consisting of lead vocalist and songwriter Paige Duddy and songwriter and musician Chase Duddy.[1] They are best known for their debut single, which was self-released through NoiseTrade, entitled "America", released in February 2015. This single eventually became the lead single of their debut extended play under the same name, which was released in February 2016.
Career
The pair are the grandchildren of jazz drummer Joe Porcaro and nephew and niece of three members of Toto.[2]
2015–2016: America EP
The duo's career started in February 2015, when they began to get well-known on the Internet with their debut single, "America". The song was self-released and was promoted through Hype Machine and NoiseTrade on 23 February 2015. The song eventually made it onto the top 10 of the Hype Machine chart and was debuted on American radio through KCRW. The song also managed to gain 250,000 views and streams on YouTube in under a week.
In June, their debut single reached nearly 1 million streams on YouTube. They also released their second song, entitled "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea", on June 4, 2015.
In mid-June, the duo announced that they were producing and writing more music, which was to come soon. They released their third song, entitled "Afterlife", on July 22, 2015, premiered through Apple Music.
In September 2015, they featured as special guests on Oh Wonder's live show in Los Angeles, their first ever headline show with another artist.
They released their fourth song, entitled "L.A. Love Song", on October 7, 2015. A month later, they announced that they were going to be taking a break and working on producing more music. The duo, during their live shows, also got signed to Sony Music Entertainment.
Going into 2016, the duo had embarked on a number of their own live shows as well as working on new music to what would become their debut extended play. On 19 February 2016, they announced their fifth single "Bang Bang", premiered through Apple Music. This came with the announcement of the extended play, under the title America, and that all of their singles released so far were to be on the extended play.
Two days before the extended play's release, they announced their sixth and final single to be released through the EP, entitled "BLK CLD", released 26 February 2016. The EP was released on February 27, 2016 through Sony Music Entertainment. During the release, the duo launched their official VEVO channel on YouTube with the music video for their debut single "America", which sparked the single's official release, to celebrate a year since its original release.
The post-release of the extended play sparked the start of their American tour, which took place across the United States. They also said that they were going to be working on new music which is what will eventually become the duo's debut album.
On 10 June 2016, they released the America (The Remixes) EP, which includes remixes from Young Bombs and Win & Woo.[3]
2016–present: Debut album
After the success of the debut extended play, the duo released their single "Fool's Paradise" on August 5, 2016. Upon the song's release it was described very much as an "anti-Trump song", describing his gloomy proposal to separate the country of Mexico from the United States with a wall, acting as its border.
The duo was featured on "Setting Fires" by The Chainsmokers, released as part of the Collage EP on November 4, 2016.
