X5 Retail Group is the largest food retailer in Russia[2][3]. As of 31 March 2017, X5 had 9,817 Company-operated stores[4].
The company was created in May 2006 after the merger of the Pyatyorochka and Perekrestok food retail chains.[5] It was the country's largest retailer in terms of sales before being overtaken by Magnit in April 2013.[6] A rival grocer, Kopeyka, was acquired by X5 for $1.12 bln in 2010.[7] X5 also operates the Karusel hypermarket chain.
X5 Retail is listed on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol FIVE.
The company's main shareholder is Alfa Group (47.86%).[8]
In November 2015 shareholders of X5 Retail Group confirmed Igor Shekhterman’s appointment as a Chief-Executive officer up to 2019. Mr. Stephan DuCharme appointment as Chairman of Supervisory Board at X5 Retail Group[9].
