The World Government Summit is a UAE-based international organization[1] that serves as a platform for global dialogue attempting to revolutionize how governments operate and how policies are made. The organization's vision is to aid humanity at large, it aims to empower governments for the future with the ultimate objective of improving the lives of seven billion[2] people all around the world. The Summit acts as a knowledge exchange hub between governments, futurism, technology and innovation. It was created and incubated by a team of experts from different disciplines in an effort to bring government, business and civil society together.

Acting as a gateway to the future, the World Government Summit also functions as an analysis platform for the future trends, issues and opportunities facing humanity. The summit will be launching international reports in partnership with Oxford Analytica, Mackenzie and Harvard.[3] The summit also features a number of exhibitions such as Museum of the Future,[4] which is a unique Dubai-based initiative that explores the future of science, technology and innovation. In 2016 the Museum of the Future's displays included a installment about a trip to the year 2035 where it showcased how technology could evolve and be used to manage complex social end economic systems.[5] In 2016, the summit also featured a number of awards including the inaugural Best Minister in the World award [6] which was awarded to Greg Hunt, at that time Australian Minister of Federal Environment, later appointed as Australian Minister of Health in 2017.[7]

Omar Sultan Al-Ulama is the Managing Director of the World Government Summit, Mohamed Al Gergawi is the Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi is the Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee.

Each year, government officials, thought leaders, policy makers and private sector leaders meet in Dubai[24] to explore the future of governments in the coming decades. The summit brings together over 90 speakers from 150 participating countries[25] along with over 4000 attendees.

In 2015, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Mohammad Al Gergawi, Chairman of the summit's Organizing Committee and Minister of the UAE Cabinet Affairs & The Future announced ten key changes aimed at taking the summit to a new global level. The changes included changing the summit's name from Government Summit to World Government Summit in addition to its change of entity from a forum to an organization with the goal of providing integrated knowledge services for over 150 governments and global organizations

In 2017, the World Government Summit focused on fundamental questions that aim to pave the way for that future across the globe. The summit was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and included participation of seven world and international organizations who are also strategic partners including the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations, UNESCO, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the World Economic Forum.[26]

The 2017 summit focused on four main themes:

  3. Government Agility
  4. Geopolitics & Humanitarian Aid
