The Wilshire Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually in early May at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. A Grade III event open to fillies and mares age three and older, it is contested on turf over a distance of one mile (8 furlongs).

Historical notes

The Wilshire Stakes was first run at Hollywood Park in 1953 as the Wilshire Handicap, a one mile race on dirt for three-year-old fillies. It was not run again until 1963 when it was revived as an event that included older fillies and mares.

In 1973, it was run in two divisions.

Since inception, the Wilshire Stakes has been contested at a variety of distances:

Beginning with the 2014 running, it was moved to Santa Anita Park due to Hollywood Park's closure and given its present name.[1]
