When Billie Beat Bobby is a 2001 ABC docudrama detailing the historic 1973 "The Battle of the Sexes" tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs and what lead up to it. The match was filmed at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, California.
At the 53rd Primetime Emmy Awards, Holly Hunter was nominated for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie but lost out to Judy Davis who won for Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows.
In 2013, New Black Films released the documentary movie Battle of the Sexes in cinemas, with television broadcast following soon after. It was directed by James Erskine and Zara Hayes. The film was released on DVD in 2014.
On April 20, 2015, it was announced that Fox Searchlight Pictures had set Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris to direct a tennis drama film based on the title Battle of the Sexes, scripted by Simon Beaufoy.[1]
