Welcome to the Ballroom (Japanese: ボールルームへようこそ Hepburn: Bōrurūmu e Yōkoso) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tomo Takeuchi. It tells the prototypical story of an aimless Japanese youth named Tatara Fujita, who, after a chance encounter, is plunged into the world of competitive dancing. The series is licensed in North America by Kodansha Comics USA.[1] An anime television series adaptation by Production I.G premiered on July 8, 2017, with Amazon Video exclusively streaming the series worldwide.[lower-alpha 1]

- Tatara Fujita (富士田多々良 Fujita Tatara)
- Voiced by: Shimba Tsuchiya[2]
- Tatara is a third year middle school student who does not know what he wants to do in the future, nor has a hobby. He accidentally entered the Ogasawara Dance Studio after Sengoku saved him from the delinquents, and becomes hooked with dance. While he is difficult to be taught with words, Tatara is good at duplicating dance moves he has seen.
- Kiyoharu Hyōdō (兵藤清春 Hyōdō Kiyoharu)
- Voiced by: Nobuhiko Okamoto[2]
- An amateur dancer and Shizuku's partner for 9 years, Hyōdō is an genius dancer with unmotivated dance.
- Shizuku Hanaoka (花岡雫 Hanaoka Shizuku)
- Voiced by: Ayane Sakura[2]
- A third year middle school who goes to same school as Tatara and Hyōdō's dancing partner.
- Kaname Sengoku (仙谷要 Sengoku Kaname)
- Voiced by: Toshiyuki Morikawa[2]
- Pro dancer.
- Gaju Akagi (赤城賀寿 Akagi Gaju)
- Voiced by: Kentarō Tomita[3]
- A latin amateur dancer and a high school freshman. He always wanted to be Shizuku's dancing partner.

- A junior high school second year and Gaju's younger sister and dance partner.

Manga
The manga began serialization by Tomo Takeuchi in Kodansha's Monthly Shōnen Magazine in the December 2011 issue.[5] The series went on hiatus in February 2016 due to the author's poor health, but returned in the February 2017 issue.[6] On March 21, 2016, Kodansha Comics announced that it has licensed the manga in English.[7] As of June 23, 2017, nine volumes have been released.

Anime
It was announced in the February 2017 issue of the Monthly Shōnen Magazine that the series will receive an anime television series adaptation.[25] The series is being directed by Yoshimi Itazu and written by Kenichi Suemitsu, with animation produced by Production I.G, character designs by Takahiro Kishida and music composed by Yuki Hayashi. Tetsuya Kinoshita is producing the anime. It had its world premiere at the 2017 Anime Expo on July 2, 2017,[26] later premiering on MBS and other channels in July 8, 2017.[27] Unison Square Garden is performing the opening theme song "10% roll, 10% romance."[28] Mikako Komatsu is performing the ending theme song "Maybe the next waltz."[29] Amazon began streaming the anime series on their Anime Strike service in U.S. and on Amazon Video worldwide one day before the first episode aired in Japan, with the following episodes streamed as soon as they air in Japan.[4] The series will run for 24 episodes.[30]

Reception
It was nominated for the 6th Manga Taishō.[31] It was number nine on the 2013 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Top 20 Manga for Male Readers survey.[32] It was placed seventh in Zenkoku Shotenin ga Eranda Osusume Comic 2013, a 2013 ranking of the top 15 manga recommended by Japanese bookstores.[33] It is nominated for the 8th Manga Taishō.[34] Volume 4 sold 53,892 copies in the week of April 14 to 20, 2013.[35]
