He was born in Kaesong, as the fourth son of Jakjaegeon (Hangul: 작제건; Hanja: 作帝建) and Yongnyeo (용녀).
Biography
Gang Chung was a son of Gang Ho-gyeong who was the 67th descendant of Gang Hou. Gang Hou was the second child of Gang Shu who was from Zingzhao country, Shangxi province in China.[1][2][3] He had three children named as I-Jegeon, Bo-Seung and Gang Bo Yuk. Gang Bo Yuk married with his niece Gang Deju and their daughter Gang Sin-ui was born. Gang Sin-ui married with Chinese man and King Uijo of Goryeo was born. The father of King Uijo was royal family from Tang dynasty, China.[4] According to Pyeonnyeon-Tong-Long (ko:편년통록) and Goryeosa jeolyo (ko:고려사절요), he was Emperor Suzong of Tang. In Pyeonnyeongangmog (Hangul: 변년강목; Hanja: 編年綱目), Emperor Xuānzong of Tang was father of King Uijo.[5][6] When his father visited Silla, King Uijo of Goryeo was born between his Chinese father and Gang Sin-ui who was a daughter of Gang Bo Yuk. On the way of finding his father to China, King Uijo met Queen Wonchang and get married with her. According to Record of Seongwon (Hangul: 성원녹; Hanja: 聖源録), Queen Wonchang was a daughter of Tou En Dian Jiao Gan from Ping state (zh:平州刺史部), China.[7] Queen Wonchang gave birth of a boy. His name was Wang Ryung and his son was the founder of Goryeo, Taejo of Goryeo.[8][9]
Episode
According to Go Ungi (Hangul: 고운기; Hanja: 高雲基), a professor of Yonsei University, father of King Uijo of Goryeo came from Silla and got married to a women in Goryeo, Gang Sin-ui. King Uijo of Goeyo get married with a daughter of dragon in Xihai (西海) and she gave birth for Sejo of Goryeo who is father of Taejo. If we see “Dragon” as some kind of symbol of Chinese, Family line of Taejo of Goryeo should be almost Chinese, even if we examine from his great grandfather, Taejo of Goryeo is definitely a third generation of Chinese.[10]
As explained above, King Uijo of Goryeo have Chinese origin. In Korean drama, “Taejo Wang Geon”, there is a scene Sejo of Goryeo tells his son, Taejo “Our ancestor came from Tang dynasty to Silla with Jang Bogo.”[11]
