Wamiqa Gabbi is an Indian film actress who has starred in Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu films.
Early life
Wamiqa was born and brought up in Chandigarh. Her father, Govardhan Gabbi is a Punjabi writer and her mother, Raj Kumari, an educationist. Her younger brother Haardik Gabbi is also a budding actor and Musician. Always wanting to be an actress, she was just eight years old when she acted in a Punjabi television-serial [1] Wamiqa can write and understand Punjabi, Hindi and English languages.
Career
A trained kathak dancer, she was among the top five participants in a dance show judged by Aamir Khan. It was during the dance show that she was offered a small role in Jab We Met, starting her acting stint in films. She was also seen in films like Bittoo Boss and Love Aaj Kal after that.[1]
Her big break came with the Punjabi film with Yo Yo Honey Singh and Amrinder Gill, Tu Mera 22 Mai Tera 22. She went on to star in two other Punjabi films Ishq Brandy and Ishq Haazir Hai as a co-star to actor Diljit Dosanjh.
She has also done a Hindi film as first female lead as Tanisha. Sixteen.,[2] She starred in Telugu film Bhale Manchi Roju as female lead.
Wamiqa has also starred as the female lead in a Tamil film Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam.[3] She is in female lead role Malayalam film directing by Basil Joseph. The movie titled as Godha released on 19th May 2017 where she acted alongside Tovino Thomas[4]. In March 2017, Wamiqa signed a new Tamil film Iravaakaalam which is to be directed by Ashwin Saravanan to star along with Sshivada and S. J. Suryah.[5]
