Walter Wobmann
Walter Wobmann (born 21 November 1957 in Entlebuch) is a Swiss politician of the Swiss People's Party.
Biography
Wobmann has held an MP position at the National Council of Switzerland since 2003. He's a member of the Campaign for an Independent and Neutral Switzerland.[1]
In March 2017 Wobmann putted up a bill that would have banned wearing a burqa in passport photos, arguing that it "is not a question of religious freedom but of equal treatment", saying that it was unfair that burqas could be worn but other headgear could not be worn.[2] The bill failed to pass in the parliament, and he then began collecting signatures to launch a referendum on the ban for 2017. He has claimed that his campaign, called “Yes to a ban on face-covering,” has so far collected over two-thirds of the 100,000 signatures needed to force a referendum.[3]
