Wacana Bhakti Seminary for diocesan clergy was opened in 1988 on the campus of Gonzaga College, Jakarta, Indonesia, and is administered by the Society of Jesus.

History

A minor seminary was planned for the Archdiocese of Jakarta,[1] but the idea was dropped from cost considerations. A seminary residence, instead, was opened next to a college where the seminarians would take most of their courses.[2][3]

The college was being built on seven acres of land in the region of West Pejaten. Mgr. Leo Soekoto, S.J., Archbishop of Jakarta, began plans for the college in 1978, which opened in November 1988 as South Unit Canisius College, and was renamed Kolese Gonzaga in 1990. The secondary school, where the seminarians take most of their classes, began accepting girls in 1990. A unique sort of seminary experience, the classes include about 35% girls. Classes specific to seminarians are taken at Wacana Bhakti Seminary.[4]

Facilities and activities

Facilities include a gym for basketball and soccer and a chapel. Wacana Bhakti Symphony Orchestra was established in 1996.[5]
