WXNA-LP (101.5 FM) is a community-oriented low-powered FM radio station that is licensed to and located in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. The freeform formatted station operates with an effective radiated power of 100 watts. The station’s studio is located within a residential building along Eighth Avenue South in downtown Nashville.

History

After the sale of the license of WRVU in 2011, the college radio station of Vanderbilt University, several disc jockeys who previously worked for WRVU organized the intent to create a new non-profit radio station. WRVU became an internet-only radio station after the station’s FM signal went off the air in 2011, but returned a short time after as Nashville Public Radio's classical radio station WFCL, making it a sister station of WPLN-AM-FM. After several fundraisers and the process of application filing with the Federal Communications Commission, WXNA-LP signed on the air, broadcasting at 101.5 megahertz, on June 4, 2016. [1] WRFN-LP/Pasquo and its associated translator W279CH/Hermitage (103.7 MHz), which launched in 2005 and 2014, respectively, is WXNA’s main competitor.

Programming

The station features a mixture of music, talk shows, cultural and public affairs programming, much of which was previously broadcast over the defunct WRVU. A few professional musicians who reside in the Nashville area also have their own radio shows that are broadcast on WXNA. With a freeform format, the station’s music playlist is made up of music from several dozen musical artists from across several genres. [2][3] All programming is listener-supported as it is a non-profit business, although some local businesses also provide funding to the station for support.

Coverage area

WXNA-LP’s 100 watts of power is just enough to cover the entire core area of the Nashville area.[4] The only way to hear the station outside of the Nashville area is via the station’s online stream on their website, or on the LinkedIn mobile app. [5][6]
