Vratislav Kulhánek (* 20 November 1943, České Budějovice) is a Czech business manager and former Chairman of the Czech Ice Hockey Association. In July 2017, he announced his candidature for President of the Czech Republic in the 2018 presidential election as a nominee of the Civic Democratic Alliance.[1]

Bigraphy

He studied University of Economics, Prague and European Business School. He later later worked in variety of Companies. In 1992 he became a Chairman of Robert Bosch in České Budějovice. He was active in Škoda Auto since 1997.[2][3] He left Škoda in 2007 and became Chairman of the Czech Ice Hockey Association in 2004. He remained in the position until 2008.[1] He later became an employee of Kooperativa Förbundet

Presidential election 2018

He announced his candidature for Czech president on 29 June 2018. He is candidate of Civic Democratic Alliance (ODA). The party will help him with gathering of signatures needed to run and also will support him financially. Incumbent president Miloš Zeman stated that he doen't know him very much but remembers him as a successful manager of Škoda Auto. Leader of ODA Sehnal stated that Kulhánek would be a main right-wing candidate.[4]

Political views

Kulhánek stated he has always been close to Civic Democratic Alliance and Freedom Union. He also shown sypathies with some politicians of Civic Democratic Party. He simpathizes with Conservative politics. Kulhánek is critical of Islamic immigration. He stated that he doesn't want Mosques in the Czech Republic.[5][6] On 17 July 2017 he stated that the Czech Republic is able to accept 5,000-10,000 refugees. He stated that he would accept only those that are verifiably in danger and wouldn't culminate them in one place so they would have to adapt if they want to live here.[7]

Kulhánek is pro-European politician and supports acception of Euro in the Czech Republic. On the other hand, he opposes politics of Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron. He is also supportive of NATO.[6]
