Você Não Entende Nada/Cotidiano (Portuguese for "You Don't Understand Anything/Daily") is a song recorded in 1972 by brazilian singers, songwriters and musicians Caetano Veloso and Chico Buarque for the live album Caetano e Chico - juntos e ao vivo.[1] It was recorded in Salvador's Teatro Castro Alves shortly after Veloso returned from his exile in London, imposed by the ruling Brazilian military dictatorship.

The song is actually, the combination of two different songs: "Você Não Entende Nada" written by Caetano Veloso and "Cotidiano" written and recorded previously by Chico Buarque in 1971 for the album Construção as an incidental song.

Você Não Entende Nada/Cotidiano was recorded in 1992 by the brazilian female singer Daniela Mercury, as the fourth single of the album O Canto da Cidade, Mercury's second studio album. Mercury turned the song into a samba-reggae following the success of her previous singles: O Canto da Cidade, O Mais Belo dos Belos and Batuque.

Chart performance

The song became the fourth consecutive single of the album to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Brazil.

Music video

The music video for the song shows Mercury in a house, on a tropical beach, playing the part of Caetano Veloso's wife. Caetano was invited by Daniela herself to be in the video, which was aired on the Rede Globo TV special, O Canto da Cidade - 15 Anos in 1992.
