Virginia Discovery Museum is a nonprofit hands-on children's museum, with exhibits on literacy, science, math, history, and the arts.[1] It is located in Charlottesville, Virginia and is appropriate for families with newborns to children age 8.[2]

History

The Virginia Discovery Museum was incorporated in 1981. Initially, VDM organized interactive activities which traveled throughout Central Virginia. The popularity of these programs increased the Board's resolve to find a building for the Museum. On October 25, 1986, VDM welcomed visitors to its first home, a two-story house located near the University of Virginia. The numbers of visitors increased and a bigger building was needed. On May 1, 1990, the Museum opened in its current location on the Downtown Pedestrian Mall in Charlottesville, Virginia.[3]

Mission

The Virginia Discovery Museum fosters intellectual curiosity and development for all children in the Charlottesville-Albemarle community and the surrounding areas.[4]
