Star Vijay, commonly known as Vijay Tv is an Indian Tamil language general entertainment private broadcast television network that is owned by the Star India,[1] a subsidiary of American multinational mass media corporation 21st Century Fox.[2] The channel currently broadcast from Vijay House, Nungambakkam, Chennai.[3] Star Vijay originally launched in 1994 as Golden Eagle Communication. The channel later known as Vijay TV until 2001. The shows include a mix of family dramas, comedies, reality shows, shows on crime and movies.
Star Vijay launched its high-definition counterpart, Star Vijay HD, on 29 May 2016.[4] In Canada, the channel and most of its shows are distributed via the Asian Television Network and is branded as ATN Star Vijay. It is also available via the internet protocol television service, Lebara Play.Star Vijay is currently one of most watched Tamil Language television channels in the world and in a fierce competition with Sun TV.
History
The channel was launched in 1994 as Golden eagle communication channel. But after one of launch, the channel was renamed as Vijay TV.[5] In 2001, Star India subsidiary of American multinational mass media corporation 21st Century Fox took over the channel and re brand it as Star Vijay In February 2013, Star Vijay became first Tamil channel to telecast Hollywood dub movie in Tamil.[6] The first Tamil dub Hollywood movie to air was Titanic.
Due to success of Star Vijay, it launched second Tamil GEC called Vijay Super.[7] The channel focus on new line-up of fiction content and will also air old programs of Star Vijay. On 8 November 2016, STAR Vijay rebranded itself with a slim bright yellow-orange logo and a new graphical packaging with a new slogan, Edhilum Pudhumai Tamizhan Perumai.[8] The colours used—yellow and orange—represent turmeric and vermillion and signify the local colours of the Tamil women.

Star Vijay has programming which appeals to all audiences irrespective of their age groups or demography. The channel is well accepted as the complete family entertainer with game shows, reality show,comedy, spiritual shows, cookery, talk shows, musical shows, drama, films and events. It's show like Mahabharatham Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi and Bigg Boss Tamil, seen as trend setter in Tamil television industry.
