Vermicella is a genus of venomous snakes of the family Elapidae.
Species
Six species are recognized as being valid.[1]
- Vermicella annulata (Gray, 1841)
- Vermicella calonotus (A.M.C. Duméril, Bibron & A.H.A. Duméril, 1854)
- Vermicella intermedia Keogh & S.A. Smith, 1996
- Vermicella multifasciata (Longman, 1915)
- Vermicella snelli Storr, 1968
- Vermicella vermiformis Keogh & S.A. Smith, 1996
Nota bene: A binomial authority in parentheses indicates that the species was originally described in a genus other than Vermicella.
Etymology
The specific name, snelli, is in honor of Charles Snell who donated the holotype to the Western Australian Museum.[2]
