Varuna, The Writers' House

Varuna, The Writers' House is a writers' centre and retreat, in Katoomba, New South Wales, Australia.[1][2] It is funded through The Eleanor Dark Foundation.[3] It was previously the home of Eleanor and Eric Dark's son Michael ('Mick') Dark, who gifted the house to the public in 1989. He was the President of the Centre from its inception until his death in July 2015.[4]

It has been a valuable addition to the NSW writing community and has provided a place where authors can commune with other likeminded artists while considering their work.[5]

Varuna has played host as part of the Blue Mountain's program of the Sydney Writers' Festival since 2006.[6]

Peter Bishop, the Centre's original Executive Director,[7] resigned from his position in 2011 but is still an Associate of the Centre, having worked closely with authors for over 16 years.[8]
