Valmir Sulejmani (born 1 February 1996) is an Kosovo Albanian professional footballer who plays as a forward for German club Hannover 96 II and the Kosovo national team. Sulejmani previously represented Germany and Albania at youth international level.

Club career

Hannover 96

Youth career

He started his youth career at Hannover 96's academy at age nine. He played for Hannover U-19 youth team for the 2012–13 season in the Under 19 Bundesliga and made it seven appearances and scored one goal against Holstein Kiel U-19 team on 12 May 2013, match finished in the victory 5–2.[2] He started the 2013–14 season on 11 August 2013, playing against Rot-Weiss Erfurt U-19 in the loss 3–1.[3] He managed to score 2 goals that season, were first came a week later after the opening season match, on 18 August 2013 against St. Pauli U-19 finished in the victory 4–2 [4] and the season second goal on 1 September 2013 against Hamburg U-19, were the match finished in the victory 4–1.[5] Sulejmani finished playing the 2013–14 season with total of 6 appearances and 2 goals scored, as he gained entry with Hannover 96 II mading his debut on 19 October 2013 against Victoria Hamburg playing as a starter in the match finished in an away victory 0–2.[6]

First team

Sulejmani played on 26 October 2013 in the destruction 9–2 victory of Hannover 96 II against Werder Bremen II[7] before he gained entry at the first Hannover 96 team, as he called up for the match against Werder Bremen on 3 November 2013, where he was an unused substitute for the entire match.[8] He made it his first debut for Hannover 96 at age 17, on 14 December 2013 in the match against Nürnberg, coming on as a substitute in the 74th minute in place of Artur Sobiech were the match finished in the draw 3–3, also coming from behind 3–0 were Sulejmani assisted the second Hannover's goal scored by Mame Diouf in 87th minute.[9] In the next fixture match against Freiburg on 21 December 2013, Sulejmani included in the starting line up, playing a full first-half of the match and substituted off for second half by Artur Sobiech, as the match finished in the loss 2-1.[10]

Loan to Union Berlin

On 29 January 2015, Sulejmani was loaned to the 2. Bundesliga side Union Berlin until the end of the 2014–15 season. He was hired as a replacement for long-time injured Maximilian Thiel and rejoined with head coach Norbert Düwel, who had been assistant coach at Hannover 96 before.[11]

International

Germany U17

Between 2012 and 2013. Sulejmani has played five matches for the Germany U17.[12]

Albania U21

Sulejmani declared to the Albanian sports media that he has been in contact with FSHF and although he has played for Germany's youth teams, he could play for Albania in the future, given his Albanian background.[13] On the other hand, Albania's coach, Gianni de Biasi, declared that Sulejmani is in his plans.[14]

On 1 August 2014 the Albania national under-21 football team's coach Skënder Gega declared that he has invited Sulejmani to join the Albania national U21 team for the friendly match on 6 August 2014 against Qatar U-20.[15] Two days later on 3 August 2014 media reported that his club Hannover didn't gave him the permission to go with the Albania U-21, but Sulejmani himself declared that he would be part of the team in the future matches.[16] On October 1, 2014 Sulejmani received another call-up from Albania under-21 for the friendly match against Romania U21,[17] but declined the invitation.

Kosovo

On 7 October 2015. Sulejmani received a call-up from Kosovo for a friendly match against Equatorial Guinea[18] and making his debut after coming on as a substitute at 57th minute in place of Mërgim Brahimi.

Kosovo under-21

On 5 June 2017. Sulejmani received a call-up from Kosovo U21 for a 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification match against Norway U21[19] and making his debut after being named in the starting line-up.
