Spartan Update

Spartan Update is a 7- to 10-minute student produced bi-weekly TV news report shown school-wide on Fridays at the beginning of first period. All activity at North comes to a halt during the broadcast as all students and faculty watch the show. Full-footage news coverage is provided on 4–7 different issues that were prominent in the mainstream news that week. Other elements typically shown are a student-made commercial, a weather report, and a sports segment. Topics frequently covered include school events, recent trips, innovative projects in various classes, and unique happenings at the school. Taping and editing of the show is typically done almost every day after the school day ends. Many Spartan Update alumni have gone on to study in communications or other related fields in college.

North Star

North Star is a student publication/blog containing articles about recent events (both in and out of the school), opinions, interests, and school activities. The club releases new articles online often. North Star journalists are recognized annually by the Long Island Press through the Excellence in High School Journalism Awards Program, and many have gone on to pursue a career in journalism.
