VIBGYOR High School is a chain of schools, the first school of which was established in 2004 in Goregaon, Mumbai, India. Under the leadership of Mr. Rustom Kerawalla, Founder Chairman of the Institution, VIBGYOR Group of Schools has opened up 25 schools in seven major cities. Known for its quality education and academic excellence, the schools offer a unique range of world-class educational services for the holistic development of students in curricular and co-curricular areas.

VIBGYOR Group’s educational institutions include Pre-schools under the name of VIBGYOR Kids, and Primary and Secondary Schools under the name of VIBGYOR High. Recently they launched a new division of schools under the brand name of VIBGYOR Roots (pre-school) and VIBGYOR Rise (primary and secondary). VIBGYOR High offers a choice between the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), International General Certification of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and A-level, depending on the school chosen.

With “Connecting People to Nature” being the theme of this year’s World Environment Day, Students and teachers of Vibgyor High participated in a plantation drive and also distributed 5,500 saplings.[6]

Vadodara Summer Fest

Between 30 April and 4 May 2015 Vibygor High Vadodara hosted a Summer Fest in collaboration with Olympia Sportz and Events to promote football and basketball among school children.[7] Twenty schools pooled in with a maximum participation of three hundred students forming thirty five teams.[8] “We strive towards promoting all kind of sports within our school premises”, said Mr. Dilip George, the principal of Vibgyor High.Mr. Shaji Kuttiani, Vice-President, Olympia Sportz & Events said, “We are glad to be associated with Vibygor High who actively encourages sports in their school through various mediums.[9][10]

Vibygor High Summer Camp – May 2015

From 25 April to 7 June, Vibygor High organized a summer camp with activities like sports, dance, music, swimming, speech and drama, skating etc.[11] Each of the activities have a curriculum relevant to the age group.[12][13]

Save Aarey

On 28 February 2015, students of grade 5 to 8 of Vibygor High, Malad organised a ‘Green Camp’ in the school premises to support the ‘Save Aarey’ campaign.[14] Around 300 parents and students extended their support to the movement.[15]

Achievements

A student of Vibgyor High School, NIBM Road, Pune, was declared the topper in environmental science subject in International General Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (IGCSE), which is part of the University of Cambridge.[16]

A student of Vibgyor High school Goregaon secured Second position in AIR in ICSE.[17]

The Pathan Brothers launched their first cricket camp (Cricket Academy of Pathans) at Vibgyor High Vadodara.[18]

19 kids with special needs from VIBGYOR Group of Schools pass CBSE-17 10th exam with flying colours.[19]

Nineteen children from VIBGYOR High Schools with Special Educational Needs (SEN) passed the Class 10th exams with flying colours.A majority of them scored above 82 percent, with the highest scorer achieving 89.4 percent. All these students have been a part of VIBGYOR Group of Schools’ Personalised Learning Centres (PLC).

Student tops at NSO examination

A student of class three of Vibgyor High School, Balewadi, Pune, achieved First Rank at the International level in the 17th National Science Olympiad (NSO) in the academic year 2014-15.[20] [21] [22] Students from 31,500 schools from over 14,00 cities in nineteen countries participated in the event, which was conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF).[23][24][25] The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs.50,000 along with a gold medal, merit certificate and gifts worth Rs.1,000.[26]

2015

Vibgyor High achieved 100% results in 2015, across schools in Mumbai, Pune, Vadodara and Bangalore ICSE Class 10 examinations.[28][29] In 2015, the number of students who took the Class ten boards from several schools across India was around 1.59 lakh with a pass percentage of 98.49%.[30] Of the 253 students, who appeared for the examinations this year from Vibygor High, 40% from across centres scored more than 90% marks, while 93% achieved distinction.[31]

VIBGYOR High Group of Schools has been awarded in two categories – ‘Best Operational Excellence in K12 Educational Institutes’ and ‘Award for Quality in Education’ at the World Education Congress 2016, held recently at Taj Lands End, Mumbai. Mr. Ashish Tibdewal, CEO & CFO, VIBGYOR High Group of Schools received the award on behalf of the institution from Mr. H. E. Lytou Bouapao, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Education and Sports, Lao PDR. [32]

Vibygor group of schools was awarded with the “K-12 School Chain of the year” in the west zone and “Best Sport Empowerment” awards at the 5th Annual Indian Education Congress 2015, held in New Delhi.[33][34]

K-12 Education Awards are given to schools as an expression of gratitude for their contribution in the Indian education sector.[35] The best sport empowerment award recognizes schools that have developed opportunities for sports with extensive participation and achievement in sports and other physical activities.[36]

Runners up in dance competition

Vibygor High Marthahalli School won the Second prize in an inter-school dance competition – DayanandSagar Memorial State Level Dance Competition.[37] It was among the top four schools who won the competition, 23 schools and dance academies participated.[38] The students were awarded with certificates and trophy.[39]

Win in the Bee National Championship

Vibygor Kids, a part of the Vibygor High group of schools, made their presence in the winning list of MaRRS Pre-School Bee National Championship for the academic year 2014-15. The competition was held at Pawar Public School Mumbai on 2 August 2015, with the participation of 400 children, studying in classes from Nursery to Senior Kindergarten from schools across India. A student from Vibygor Kids Horamavu School secured the first rank and received a scholarship worth Rs. 10,000/- along with a trophy and certificate.[40] Out of 14 students of VIBGYOR Kids, seven students were among the Top 20 rank holders,[41] while remaining students received the Budding Star title. Each of them was rewarded with a Trophy and a Merit certificate.[40]

Goregaon students represent Maharashtra in basketball

Two students of Grade VIII, ICSE from Vibygor High School, Goregaon were selected to represent Maharashtra State at the National Level Basketball Tournament.[42] The selection took place based on their performance at the DSO U-14 State Level Basketball Tournament 2015, held at Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana, Dharampeth, Nagpur, from 3 to 6 October, this year. The event was held for the schools of Maharashtra.[43]

Ranked amongst Top 19 Schools in the Mumbai region

Vibygor High School, Goregaon and Vibygor High School, Malad was ranked at No. 1 and No. 2 in the Zone D region of Mumbai, respectively. Both the schools have also been ranked at No. 8 and No. 10 respectively amongst the Top 19 Schools in the Mumbai region.[44] Vibygor High was selected from over 500 schools, which were shortlisted.[45] The survey was conducted by Times Group, in partnership with i3 Research Consultants to determine the top schools in each zone in Mumbai.[46] The team conducted an exhaustive sample survey of 910 across seven zones of Mumbai.[47]

Double victory in the Don Bosco Inter School Basketball Tournament 2015

The U-11 Boys team of VIBGYOR High School, Goregaon, won with a score of 31-19 against the Don Bosco Matunga School.[48] The U-13 Girls team of VIBGYOR High School, Goregaon, won with a score of 27-13 against St. Anthony School, Chembur.[49] Arjav Shah, student of VIBGYOR High was awarded the Best Player Trophy to appreciate his commendable performance in the tournament.[50] Advait Jajodia, a part of U-13 Boys team, was awarded the Best Defensive Player of the tournament.[51] Tvisha Gala was also awarded with the Best Player Trophy for her exceptional performance in the tournament.[52]

10-Year-Old Ishita Katyal From VIBGYOR High Balewadi Becomes The Youngest Indian To Speak At TEDx New York

10 year old Ishita Katyal of VIBGYOR High Balewadi became the youngest Indian to deliver a talk at the TED Youth conference in New York.[53] Ishita delivered her talk titled ‘What do you want to be now ‘, challenging the system which thinks children are too small to make any difference.[54] As a youth organiser, Ishita successfully organised the first TEDx event in her school on 7 February.[55] The TEDx Program is designed to help communities, organizations and individuals to spark conversation and connection through local TED-like experiences.[56][57]

Controversies

Student's expulsion and MNS protests

In 2010, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists allegedly ransacked Vibgyor High School in Mumbai,[58] protesting against the expulsion of a female student at the Goregaon school, reportedly because her mother had led morchas against the fee hike effected by the school.[59]

Principal of Pune school held for land scam

In 2013, the principal of Vibgyor High Pune and her spouse were arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly trying to sell defence land to a Hyderabad-based education trust for Rs 18.5 crore, claiming to be the owners.[60]

Pune School directed to refund fees on cancellation of admission

A consumer forum in Pune ordered Pune-based Vibgyor High School to refund the entire fees upon cancellation of admission to the father of two children besides paying a compensation of Rs 10,000.[61][62]

Bangalore rape incident

On 2 July 2014, a six-year-old female student was allegedly raped by two staffers of Vibgyor High school, Marathahalli, Bangalore.[63] A medical examination confirmed the girl was sexually abused.[64] The incident triggered large-scale protests in Bangalore[65][66][67] and across India.[68] Eight staff members were detained by police in connection with the incident.[69] The Bangalore police initially arrested a skating instructor at the school, although he was later released as innocent.[70][71] Two gym teachers at the school were then arrested for the crime a couple of weeks later.[72][73] Charges of gang rape were filed against the two in October.[74]

Following the rape incident, Karnataka government transferred Bangalore city Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar.[75]

The chairman of the chain of schools, Rustom Kerawala, was arrested on 23 July 2014 on charges of intentionally suppressing information about the rape.[76][77] He was later released on bail, and charges were filed in October 2014 under The Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act.[74][78]

Refusal to Refund fees

Several parents moved their children to other schools due to the lack of accountability shown by Vibgyor management. The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has directed the controversy-hit Vibgyor High School in Marathahalli to refund the full amount to the parents who opt to take their children out of the school. Several parents complained that even after the DPI order, the school was denying refund of the amount.[79]
