Vélez Club de Fútbol is a Spanish football team based in Vélez-Málaga, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. Founded in 1922 it plays in Tercera División – Group 9, holding home matches at Estadio Vivar Téllez, with a capacity of 3,000 seats. The club was founded with the name of Sport Society Vélez F.C. on 22 September 1922, being its first president and at the same time player D.Juan Barranquero Aponte. After passing through different categories both provincial and regional the club, led from the dock by Juan Antonio Aparicio, is done with the first regional championship in the season 1959-60 Achieving the rise for the first time in its history to national category. The official debut in Third Division the season 1960/61, in which category was maintained until 1964 signing good performances, particularly in its first three seasons. After its decline, the team came to contest the promotion league in the following season 1964-65, leaving third party and not moving up. After twelve seasons in regional category (First Regional and Preferential Regional), the white set returns to third division in Spain in 1977 staying in it until the 1982-83 season, in which the team signed the worst season of its history in the aforementioned category to be the last of the group overcoming only a meeting. After the descent is maintains four seasons in preferential regional, signing good performances and achieving a new rise in 1987. The club begins its golden age after ascend again in 1989 with the league championship obtained in the 1991-92 season in the Group IX, although it did not achieve the promotion nor in this season or in the 1993-94] in which he was runner-up, finally get the promotion to Second Division B in the 1994/1995 season. In the third category of Spanish football remained two years, signing a meritorious 14th in his debut, competing with rivals of the stature of Malaga C.F., Cadiz C.F., Real Jaen, Granada C.F., Cordoba C.F., Elche C.F. or Recreativo de Huelva. After descending to third in 1997, ending the league in 18th position, returned to play promotion league in the following season 1997-98 with no luck. The team kept for 5 more seasons in third division, descending to preferential regional in the 2002-03. After two years in which the club was on the verge of disappearing, the trainer with which the club has achieved its greatest successes Jose Carlos Fernandez "Tello", rescued the ostracism, reverting to Third Division since the 2006-07 season, reaching even to play a new phase of the promotion to 2ªB in 2007-08, being directed by Adrián Gonzalvez. Currently the team is still playing in the Group IX of the Third Division, adding their tenth consecutive season in the category.
