Uurainen (Swedish: Urais)[6] is a municipality of Finland.

It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Central Finland region. The municipality has a population of 3,703 (31 March 2016)[2] and covers an area of 347.99 square kilometres (134.36 sq mi) of which 24.22 km2 (9.35 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 10.64 inhabitants per square kilometre (27.6/sq mi).

Neighbouring municipalities are Jyväskylä, Laukaa, Multia, Petäjävesi, Saarijärvi and Äänekoski.

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Nature

There are all together 125 lakes in Uurainen. Biggest lakes are Kyynämöinen, Sääkspää and Iso-Uurainen.[7]
