University Institute of Technology RGPV, popularly known as UIT RGPV or UIT RGTU, is a public institution located in Bhopal, India. The institution was established by the government of Madhya Pradesh with the name Government Engineering College (GEC). It is an autonomous institution as of 2010.
History
To address the growing need for engineering expertise, the government of Madhya Pradesh created Government Engineering College (GEC) in 1986 in the state capital of Bhopal. The institute initially offered only Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Computer Science and Engineering and B.E. in Electronics and Communications Engineering. The institute has been renamed a few times by the government. When it was declared autonomous in 1988, the name was changed to Bhopal Engineering College. In 2002 it was made a part of Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyala (RGPV), technological university of the state of Madhya Pradesh; at that time the institute took its current name (UIT RGPV). The institute is again autonomous beginning with the 2010 session, having the autonomy to conduct and manage its exams and other academic affairs and not having to follow all university guidelines.
