Turnberry Isle Resort and Club is a luxury resort in the city of Aventura, Florida, which is near Miami. It features Robert Trent Jones designed golf courses, a spa, tennis facilities, and restaurants.

History

The resort was developed by Donald Soffer, Mark E. Mason, Eugene Lebowitz and Edward J. Lewis of Oxford Development, who are responsible for several other projects in the area, including Aventura Mall and residential developments. Donald Soffer entered into a joint venture with Rafael Hotels[1] and sold half of the interest in Turnberry Isle Resort to Rafael Hotels for $20 million in 1988. The remaining interest was also sold to the hotel group in the 1990s after an $80 million renovation project.[2] It was managed by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel group after it acquired the Rafael Group.[3] Soffer's Turnberry Associates reacquired the property in 2005. In August 2011 the owner ousted hotel manager Fairmont Hotels and Resorts to run the property as an independent. [4] Since late 2012 the resort has been operated by Marriott as part of their Autograph Collection Hotels.[5]
