The Turbomeca Arriel is a highly successful series of French turboshaft engines that first ran in 1974.[1] Weighing 109 kg (240 lb), the Arriel 1 has a power output of 520 kW (700 hp). 10,000 examples had been produced by 2012. The Zhuzhou WZ-8 (Turboshaft) and WJ-9 (Turboprop) was the designation for Turbomeca Arriel production in China.
