True Story was originally the debut album by American hip hop duo B.G.'z, released on July 29, 1995, by Cash Money. Originally, B.G.'z were a group consisting of Lil Doogie (B.G.), who was 14 years old, and Baby D (Lil Wayne), who was 12. This album was re-released in 1999 as a B.G. album, when Cash Money Records got a distribution deal with Universal Records. The Bee Gees stopped The B.G.'z from using their name, and The B.G.'z morphed into The Hot Boys with Juvenile and Turk. With Baby D changing his name to Lil Wayne, the name B.G. was given to Lil Doogie. It sold over 20,000 copies at the time of its release.
Due to his age, Wayne's mother didn't allow him to record such profane lyrics but he still did. "True Story" and "Fuck Big Boy" are diss tracks towards Mystikal and Big Boy Records, another independent label from New Orleans.[3]
