Trey Metoyer (/ˈmʌtwaɪər/ MUH-twy-ər; born January 1, 1993) is an American football wide receiver. He formerly attended the University of Oklahoma, but was dismissed from the Sooners football team in 2013 after two charges of felony indecent exposure.[1][2]
High school career
A native of Whitehouse, Texas, Metoyer attended Whitehouse High School, where he had at least 15 receiving touchdowns per season over his final three years. As a senior, Metoyer caught 108 passes for 1,540 yards and 23 touchdowns, as he led Whitehouse to a second-round playoff appearance against Mesquite Poteet.[3] He finished his career with 258 catches, which set a new Texas high school football record.[4] Metoyer was named an All-American by USA Today, and was nominated to the 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Metoyer was regarded as one of the best wide receiver prospects in his class and drew comparisons to Dez Bryant.[5][6] Regarded as a five-star recruit by Rivals.com, he was ranked as the No. 2 wide receiver prospect in the country, behind only George Farmer.[7] Recruited by virtually all major schools in country, Metoyer chose Oklahoma over offers from Mississippi, Nebraska, and Texas A&M. However, he did not qualify academically for college, and was placed at Hargrave Military Academy, where he was ranked the No. 1 prep school prospect in 2012.[8]
College career
In his freshman year at Oklahoma, Metoyer played in eleven games, starting four games. In a road game against UTEP, he hauled in four passes in his first career start. A week later, against Florida A&M, he caught an 18-yard touchdown, the first of his career. He finished the year with 17 receptions for 148 yards.
On October 15, 2013, Metoyer was suspended indefinitely by OU head coach Bob Stoops following Metoyer being charged with two felony counts of indecent exposure. "He's going through some things right now," commented Coach Jay Norvell ,"He's trying to get his hands around it."[9] Metoyer was subsequently dismissed from the team.[10]
After football
In February 2014, Metoyer was arrested again for felony indecent exposure.[11] In April 2015 Metoyer was sentenced to eight years probation for the 2013 indecent exposure charges.[12]
