The Toyota Etios is a line of four-door sedan and five-door hatchback subcompact cars produced by the Japanese automaker Toyota for the Indian automotive market since 2010, for South Africa [1] and Brazil[2] since 2012 and Indonesia since 2013 (1.2 litre petrol hatchback). The Etios nameplate comes from the Greek "Ethos", meaning spirit, character, and ideas.[3] The sedan version was launched in December 2010 and the Liva hatchback was launched in June 2011.[4] In May 2012, the Etios Series reached total sales of 100,000 units in India.[5]
The Etios has been facelifted twice, in March 2013 and November 2014. No changes to the overall design were made, but there were changes to the interiors, grille, and tail lamps. Toyota introduced the Etios MR2 in 2010, designating it the model code "AK10". When fitted with the 1.2-liter 3NR-FE engine, it is known as the "NGK12". Likewise, the 1.5-liter 2NR version is identified by the "NGK15" code. The 1.4-liter 1ND diesel version is referred to as the "NUK15". The Etios is based on the EFC platform.[6]
Etios Concept (2010)
Available in hatchback and sedan bodies, the concept vehicles were developed for Indian market.
An Etios Concept sedan with 1.5-liter gasoline engine and an Etios Concept hatchback with 1.2-liter gasoline engine were unveiled in 10th Auto Expo automobile show in New Delhi.[7]

Motorsport
Toyota India started a one-make racing series in India called the Etios motor racing. The series started in 2012 and witnessed an overwhelming response from the Indian youngsters, there were 3300 applicants . After a 3 round selection procedure, Toyota held 2 rounds of exhibition races in 2012, one at a purpose built race track in Chennai called the Sriperumbudur race track and other in the form of ROC (Race of champions) in Gurgaon. The 25 selected drivers competed in the main championship held in the later half of 2013 . The cars are prepared by Red Rooster Performance based in Bangalore, and designed by TRD (Toyota Racing Development). They feature stock engines with exhaust and intake, producing almost 100 bhp. Toyota also made it extremely cheap to run, with a budget of just $3216 for the entire series which includes an entire OMP racing kit makes it one of the best one make series to compete in. The drivers aren't charged for damages either.
Toyota is likely to continue the series in 2014.[16]
