Tovino Thomas (born 21 January 1989) (Malayalam: ടൊവിനൊ തോമസ്) is an Indian film actor and model who stars in Malayalam films.[1] Tovino is best known for his roles in films such as ABCD (2013), 7th Day (2014), Koothara (2014), You Too Brutus (2015), Ennu Ninte Moideen (2015), and Guppy (2016). The box-office success of Oru Mexican Aparatha (2017) and Godha (2017) has led Tovino to be one of the upcoming young stars of Malayalam cinema.[2]
Tovino Thomas has been noted for his distinguishable features and has been selected as one of the most desirable men by Kochi Times for 2013.[3]
Career
Tovino Thomas appeared as a model for the advertisements of Silverstorm Water Theme Park, Athirappilly and Indulekha Hair Care Oil. Prabhuvinte Makkal,[4] directed by Sajeev Anthikkad in 2012, was his debut film. Tovino played the role of Akhilesh Verma, the lead antagonist, in ABCD directed by Martin Prakkat.[5]
Tovino played a lead role in Roopesh Peethambaran's directorial venture You too Brutus.[6] Tovino has also worked as an Assistant Director for Roopesh Peethambaran's Theevram during its pre-production stages.[7] Tovino appeared alongside Mohanlal in the film Koothara.[8] He had portrayed the role of Perumparambil Appu in the film Ennu Ninte Moideen which garnered critical acclaim.[9]
This movie was breakthrough for his career and Tovino gained wide fan base after this role. But the movie which made Tovino a stylish star is Guppy released in 2016. The film which failed to success at boxoffice but became a topic of discussion after it became a torrent hit. Tovino pulled out a energetic performance as Thejus Varky.
Tovino Thomas won the New Sensational Hero Award from NAFA 2017 for his performance in the film Guppy[10]
The year 2017 is very successful & stepping stone towards Big league for Tovino . First release of the year 2017 was Ezra starring Prithviraj in which Tovino played the role of a police officer as special appearance won him immense praise and became one of the highest grossers of all time entering ₹ 50 Crore club. His Next release Oru Mexican Aparatha in which he played the protagonist Pauly, a college politician directed by Tom Emmatty based on the victory of KSU in college union election at Maharajas college released to amidst positive reviews and became one of the superhits of first quarter grossing ₹ 21 Crores from box office resurrected Tovino into Rising Star of Malayala Cinema along with appreciation from many viewers & media. His latest film sports comedy drama Godha directed by Basil Joseph is also doing well in box office with positive reviews and got huge footfalls and giving tough competition to Indian Pride Hit Baahubali and Dulquar recent hit Comrade in America at Kerala box office.
Personal life
Tovino was born in a Syro-Malabar Catholic[11] family in Irinjalakuda, Thrissur as the younger son of Adv. Ellikkal Thomas and Sheela Thomas. His siblings Tingston and Dhanya are his source of inspiration. He completed his schooling in Don Bosco High School, Irinjalakuda and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering from Tamil Nadu College of Engineering, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He later worked in Cognizant Technology Solutions as a software engineer. During his college life he was into fitness and modelling.[12]
Tovino got married to his longtime girlfriend, Lidiya at St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Cathedral, Irinjalakuda, on 25 October 2014.[13]
