Toms Burkovskis (born 10 September 1992), professionally known as Tobu (stylized as 7obu), is a Latvian music producer.

Early life

At the age of 11, Burkovskis made his first attempt at making music. He started producing music with musical arrangement software eJay, where he put samples together. At the age of 17, he bought himself a copy of FL Studio, a common digital audio workstation for music producers, and started to explore the world of electronic music. He initially had no musical background, he taught himself by watching tutorials on YouTube at first. His producer friends also taught him some techniques and offered help.

His productions are inspired by electronic music producer Deadmau5's track "Strobe" and musician Avicii's song “Levels”. Another music producer, Archie, was one of his biggest influences.[1]

Career

As of July 2017, he has over 850,000 subscribers and over 70 songs on his channel. His debut album, Sugar, was released on 21 February 2016,[2] which featured 10 tracks that accumulated a total of more than 1 million plays on SoundCloud.[3] He is also known for his collaborations with the Dutch music producer Itro, which include the songs, "Fantasy", "Magic", "Sunburst", "Holiday" and "Cloud 9".

His most popular song, Hope, has over 70 million views on NCS' channel on YouTube.[4] On his own channel, the most popular song is Candyland, which has over 13 million views.[5]
