Tobasco, Ohio

Tobasco is an unincorporated community in Clermont County, in the U.S. state of Ohio.[1]

History

Tobasco is a cross roads community basically on the Ohio Pike corridor; St. Rt 125, bordered on the west by Cherry Grove, on the east by Withamsville, on the south by Nine Mile and the north by Mt Carmel. Its population is all businesses and was mostly just a census designated area.

A post office was established in 1878 and remained in operation until 1933. While some historians say that its name was derived after Tabasco, Mexico, it was misspelled at the beginning and the spelling remains today. Another historian claims that President Rutherford B. Hayes made an appearance in the area making an outdoor speech in 90º heat. As he wiped his brow he said "It is hotter than Tabasco sauce out here!"
