Thuto Isago Trust
Thuto Isago Trust is located on the BNYC premises in White City Ward in Gantsi (Ghanzi), Botswana.
History
Thuto Isago Trust was formerly known as the Gantsi Task Force on Out of School Youth (GTFOSY) and from 2004 to 2008 it received programmatic funding through the Reducing Exploitive Child Labour in Southern Africa (RECLISA) initiative of the United States Department of Labor.[1] The organization is now receiving funding from UNICEF Botswana.
In 2007, Thuto Isago Trust conducted a life skills camp called Cuiskurusa Camp for over 250 OVCs at the boarding hostel for K'Joe Primary School in New Xade, Botswana. In 2008, the Trust held a camp at the primary school hostel in Metsimantsho, Botswana.
Vision
Thuto Isago Trust's vision is to have all children in Ghanzi District in school, reducing the number of school dropouts. The Trust strives to provide appropriate education for children of all ethnic groups in Ghanzi district.
Mission
Thuto Isago Trust's mission is to work together with government departments and NGOs in the Ghanzi District to register and keep children in school. Furthermore, the Trust assists in providing culturally sensitive education to children of all ethnic groups.
Objectives
The objectives of Thuto Isago Trust are:
- To increase enrolment of children in Gantsi District in basic education (up to Form 3) to reach 70 percent enrolment.
- To keep 70 percent of re-enrolled children in school.
- To improve parent communication by convincing parents of the importance of education though workshops, in partnership with local community leaders, the Departments of S&CD, RADP and Education and NGOs.
- To develop appropriate vocational courses to meet the educational needs of the community ( e.g. agricultural courses, technical courses)
- To improve communication between teachers, parents and children.
