ABS-CBN Weekend News, was an English language weekend newscast and later the first Filipino language weekend newscast of ABS-CBN aired every Saturday and Sunday aired and produced by ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs from July 1, 1995 to May 8, 2004.
History
When the newscast first aired in July 1, 1995 as The Weekend News replacing the weekend edition of The World Tonight, it first used English as its primary language. The Weekend News switched to Filipino on August 21, 1999 making as the first Filipino-language weekend newscast on the network after The World Tonight ended on ABS-CBN and The Weekend News made its final English broadcast on August 15, 1999 just before switching to Filipino due to low ratings on English late-night newscasts and The World Tonight eventually moved to ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) two months later. It was relaunched as ABS-CBN Weekend News on March 17, 2001 as part of the network's major programming changes. The newscast ended on May 8, 2004 to make way for TV Patrol Sabado/Linggo (now TV Patrol Weekend), which was anchored by Ces Orena-Drilon and Henry Omaga-Diaz.
