Trax (Hangul: 트랙스 "tracks") is a South Korean rock band formed in 2004 by S.M. Entertainment and formerly produced by X Japan's co-founder Yoshiki. They originally consisted of: Typhoon Jay (leader and vocals), Rose Minwoo (drums), Attack Jungwoo (bass) and Xmas Jungmo (guitar). Member Minwoo official departed from the group in 2006 while Jungwoo left in 2007.
TRAX is an acronym of Typhoon-Rose-Attack-Xmas. The acronym also used for the members stage name. TRAX also refers to recording tracks. The band formerly debuted as The TRAX, they later changed the name to TRAX in 2010.
History
Pre-debut
The TRAX members Typhoon, Rose, and Attack first appeared in the "2002 Survival Audition HeeJun vs. KangTa Battle of the Century" along with former TVXQ member Xiah Junsu and Super Junior's Sungmin and Eunhyuk. The band made their first public appearance in BoA's eleventh single "Rock With You" in December 2003.
2004–07: Debut and First Rain
TRAX released their debut single Paradox on July 20, 2004. They held their first concert on July 26 at Ziller Hall and held their second concert on July 31.
Their second single Scorpio was released in Japan on November 14 by Avex Trax and in Korea on November 17 by S.M. Entertainment, with six tracks on the South Korean release and four tracks in Japan. They also featured on TVXQ's albums, Tri-Angle and Rising Sun.
TRAX released their second Japanese single Rhapsody on April 20, 2005. Their third Japanese single, Blaze Away was released on September 14.
On May 10, 2006, the drummer No Min-woo (Rose) left the band to pursue other interests and the band continued promoting as a trio. TRAX returned to Korea and released their first studio album First Rain on July 20. Following released their fourth Japanese single Resolution on August 3.
They released their fifth Japanese single, Cold Rain on January 24, 2007. Kang Jung-woo's (Attack) departure from the group was confirmed shortly thereafter.
2008–10: Cold-Hearted Man and Oh! My Goddess
In late 2008, vocalist Typhoon and guitarist X-Mas joined Super Junior members Heechul and Kangin as regulars in Mnet's television series Band of Brothers. In 2009, X-Mas was also cast on a short-lived show called Oppa Band along with Super Junior member Sungmin.
They released a digital single as a project band called TRAX+Air[1] for the Korean drama Swallow the Sun.
They released the mini album Cold-Hearted Man on January 25, 2010. It contains songs written and composed by both Typhoon and X-Mas, and features artists such as SHINee's Key, Wheesung and T-MAX's Shin Min-chul.[2] The music video for the lead single "Let You Go" starred Super Junior's Heechul and f(x)'s Victoria.
In August 2010, TRAX became a special guest for Super Junior's third Asian tour, Super Show 3 in some tour dates, performing on the bridge of the song "Don't Don". TRAX's second mini-album Oh! My Goddess was released on September 6, 2010. The music video featured Girl's Generation's Seohyun.
They also sang the song "Tell Me Your Love" for KBS's drama Mary Stayed Out All Night, featuring Moon Geun-young and Jang Keun-suk.
2011–12: M&D, Blind, and hiatus
In 2011, X-Mas joined his label mate Heechul to form the project group M&D. M&D's first title track "뭘봐 (Close Ur Mouth/What Are You Looking At?)" was released on June 22.
Typhoon was featured on the track "CRAZY" on TVXQ's fifth album, Keep Your Head Down.
TRAX's third mini album Blind was released on November 10, 2011.
On 26 March 2012, Typhoon (Jay Kim) enlisted for two years of mandatory military service. He received four weeks of basic military training in Busan and then continued to serve as a public service worker.[3] X-Mas (Kim Jung-mo) enlisted seven months later, on 25 October 2012. They were originally schedule to enlist together, but Jung-mo's scoliosis condition and a fractured collarbone delayed his enlistment. He served non-active duty as a public service worker for 23 months after completing four weeks of basic training.[4] Due to the bandmembers' enlistment in the military, the group was taking to hiatus.
2015–present: SM Town
In July 2015, TRAX performed again for the first time since their three-years hiatus on SM Town Live World Tour IV followed SM Town Live World Tour V in 2016.
On January 3, 2017 TRAX announced their first music release since Blind in 2011. On January 7, they released digital single Road as a part of SM Entertainment project SM Station.[5]
