The Sixth Lie (stylized as THE SIXTH LIE) is a Japanese electronic rock band that formed in March 2015. The band are currently signed with euclid agency, and style their music as "future rock".[2]

Etymology

The name of the band is a reference to the French composer Claude Debussy, who said: "Art is the most beautiful of all lies." The band's name is an indication of band's aim, "to create a lie so beautiful that it cannot be full experienced by the five senses".[1]

History

After a period of trying out different band members, the current line up consisting of vocalist Arata, guitarist and programmer Reiji, bassist Hiroto and drummer Ray, performed live for the first time in June 2015.[3][4] Next was the release of their first music video, for "Wake Up Your Fire".[1]

On May 30, 2015, the band released their first self-titled mini-album.[5] They then released their first EP, Integral, on September 7, 2016. A special limited edition version was also released which included live footage of the band performing at the Shibuya Cyclone singing "Wake Up Your Fire", "In This Mirror" and "Stay Back".[6] On November 5, 2016, The Sixth Lie were invited to be the opening act at Knotfest Japan.[4][7] On January 25, 2017, The Sixth Lie brouht out their second EP, Differential.[8] On June 6, 2017, The Sixth Lie released the single "Go On".[9]

The band will perform their first tour outside of Japan, SHIN x THE SIXTH LIE EUROPE TOUR 2017 "THE INCEPTION" with SHIN (ex. ViViD). Their first performance outside of Japan will be on July 14-15, 2017, at Hyper Japan in London, United Kingdom.[1] This will be followed by performances at Backstage in Paris, France; then three performances in Germany, at MTC in Cologne, Feierwerk in Munich and Headcrash in Hamburg.[10] They will also perform at Animethon in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on August 12, 2017.[11]

Influences

The band members have been influenced by both western and eastern bands. Arata was inspired by L'Arc-en-Ciel; Reiji by Slipknot, Eminem and Aerosmith; Hiroto by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ling Tosite Sigure and the music anime series K-On!; and Ray by Emerson, Lake & Palmer.[11]
