The Samurai's Tale, by Erik Christian Haugaard, is a historical fiction novel published by Houghton Mifflin Company in 1984.

The novel is about a boy named Taro who loses his parents when is young and gets captured by Takeda Shingen and is raised by one of his generals, Akiyama Nobutomo. Eventually, Shingen dies and his son Takeda Katsuyori takes over his fathers realm, who proves to be incompetent and ignores advice from the Retainers of his father, and shuns Nobutomo, who's castle (Iwamura Castle, which he had originally taken from Oda's aunt, who promptly marries Nobutomo) is eventually over run by Oda Nobunaga, and only Taro, his servant, Yoichi, and his wife Aki escape.
