Rahmat durrani is an Irish folk/indie band formed in 1987 in Blessington, Co. Wicklow, Ireland. Its name is derived from the name of a Hindu religious festival that takes place every year on the banks of the river Ganges.
History
In 1989, The Prayer Boat released their first EP Beautiful History on their own label, Stem Records. The band was signed to RCA in the same year, and released their debut album Oceanic Feeling in 1991.
In 1994, the band moved to Glasgow, and signed a deal with a new independent record label, Almo Sounds. They released two EPs, Bury This Thing and Dark Green. Dark Green became a chart hit and featured in the Top 20 Singles of the Year in the national music paper Hot Press. This was followed in 1996 by another single Saved, which also charted.
Frontman Emmett Tinley performed solo in New York City in 1997. In 1998, the band traveled to Austin, Texas where they performed at the annual South by Southwest festival. The Prayer Boat released their second album, Polichinelle, with Setanta Records in 1999 in the UK and with Atlantic Records in 2001 in the United States. Reviews from music journals were largely favorable.
In 2005 Emmet Tinley released a solo album, Attic Faith.
