The Polytechnic, Ibadan
The Polytechnic, Ibadan (typically called "Poly Ibadan") is an institution of higher learning in Ibadan in Oyo State, Nigeria.[1] Founded in 1970, Poly Ibadan is similar to other polytechnics in Nigeria. The institution was established to provide an alternative higher education to universities, particularly in technical skill acquisition. The Polytechnic Ibadan is also well known for her unique slogan written in Yoruban language as "Ise loogun Ise" which means 'Work the medicine for poverty', a classical Yoruba adage which stresses that hardwork is the way out of poverty.

History
The Polytechnic, Ibadan was established in 1970 as a successor to the erstwhile Technical College, Ibadan under the provision of a principal Edict cited as The Polytechnic, Ibadan Edict 1970. This Edict has undergone several amendments in order to make The Polytechnic relevant to the present day need of Oyo State, the Proprietor in particular and Nigeria in general.
The primary function of the Polytechnic is to provide for students training and development of techniques in applied science, engineering, environmental science and commerce. The Polytechnic has been producing majority middle-level manpower that has been making valuable contributions to the social and economic development of the country. Over the years, The Polytechnic has also produced high-level manpower in some such as Urban and Regional Planning, Mass Communication, Mechanical Engineering etc. The primary focus of the Polytechnic is training that is practically oriented. The institution has been performing this function credibly well for years. The graduates of the Polytechnic, Ibadan are found in almost all areas of endeavours all over the country and even outside the country.
By the amendment to the principal Edict of the Polytechnic which came into force on 17 March 1987, four satellite Campuses of the Polytechnic were created. They took off during 1981/82 session and were sited at Eruwa, Saki, Iree and Esa-Oke. Each of the Campuses is headed by a Director who is responsible to the Rector for the administration and discipline in their respective campus. However, with the creation of Osun State, The campuses at Iree and Esa-Oke have become the property of Osun State Government. In 2014, the two Satellite Campuses at Eruwa and Saki became autonomous as full pledge institutions and renamed to The Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa and The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki respectively.
Since 1975/76 academic session, The Polytechnic, Ibadan has been operating on faculty system for easier work co-ordination and management. At present, there are five faculties namely: Engineering, Science, Environmental Studies, Financial and Management, Business and Communication Studies. The faculties run National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes. The student enrolment of the institution has continued to grow, During the 1997/98 session, the overall student population was about 19,000.
Curriculum
The institution offers a wide range of specialized short courses for the purpose of improving the vocational capabilities of technical and commercial workers. Poly Ibadan prides itself on providing an opportunity for presenting the most recent advances in knowledge and in techniques to special groups. It awards the National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), Post Graduate Diploma ( PGD) and other professional certificates to its graduates. It also provides opportunities for creative development and research related to the needs of teaching, industry and the business community.
Academic Programmes
The Polytechnic, Ibadan through its Board of Studies lays high premium on academic excellence. The academic programmes and regulations have been carefully drawn up to enable every academics staff and student know what it is expected of them, and to know how and when to monitor his programme. The programmes and regulations are being modified as the institution grows and develops.
The polytechnic ruins mainly runs mainly National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in the following on full-time, part-time or sandwich basis.
