"The Lover in Me" is a song recorded by Scottish-born singer Sheena Easton for her 1988 ninth album of the same name. Released as the album's lead single on October 11, 1988, it was one of Easton's biggest hits in the United States and became her first top 20 hit in the United Kingdom after a seven-year hiatus.
"The Lover in Me" was written by Babyface, L.A. Reid and Daryl Simmons, and produced by Babyface and Reid, who were at the peak of their success at the time as a songwriting and production team.
Chart performance
"The Lover in Me" reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 (kept from the top spot by Debbie Gibson's "Lost in Your Eyes"), becoming her biggest hit there since "9 to 5 (Morning Train)", and stayed on the chart for 12 weeks . It also went to number two on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.[1]
Music video
The accompanying music video was directed by Dominic Sena and featured Easton singing and dancing in a club.
