The Killing of a Sacred Deer is a 2017 psychological horror-thriller film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, from a screenplay by Lanthimos and Efthymis Filippou. It stars Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman.
It was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or in the main competition section at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.[2][3] At Cannes, Lanthimos and Filippou won the Best Screenplay award.[4]
It is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 27, 2017, by A24, before being released in the United Kingdom on November 17, 2017, by Curzon Artificial Eye.
Plot
A surgeon forms a familial bond with a sinister teenage boy, with disastrous results.

Production
On May 11, 2016, it was announced that Colin Farrell had been cast in the film, with Yorgos Lanthimos directing from a screenplay he had written with Efthymis Filipou. Film4 Productions and Element Pictures would produce the project.[5] In June 2016, Nicole Kidman joined the cast of the film.[6] In August 2016, Alicia Silverstone, Raffey Cassidy, Bill Camp, Barry Keoghan, and Sunny Suljic joined the cast.[7]
Filming
As of August 23, 2016, the film has begun principal photography in Cincinnati, filming at The Christ Hospital.[8] Recently, the production has filmed in the Hyde Park neighborhood.
Release
In May 2016, A24 acquired U.S. distribution rights to the film.[9] That same month, Haut et Court acquired French distribution rights to the film.[10] It will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2017.[11] It is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 27, 2017.[12][13] It is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom on November 17, 2017.[14]
Reception
The Killing of a Sacred Deer has an 86/100 average on Metacritic[15] and a 72% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.[16]
