Testify is the fifth extended play by The Knocks. It was released on February 3, 2017 through Big Beat and Neon Gold Records.[1] It features vocals from Sam Nelson Harris of X Ambassadors, Absofacto, MNEK, Delacey, Tayla Parx and Jerm.
Background
The inspiration from the EP came around after their debut album was released. During the post release, the duo went on a European tour with Justin Bieber and began experimenting with different styles of music and debuting their new songs on their live shows.
In October 2016, whilst the duo were embarking on the tour, they announced that a new single, entitled "Heat", featuring vocals from X Ambassadors lead singer Sam Nelson Harris, was to be released on October 21, 2016. Upon release, the song was revealed to have been co-written and co-produced by Styalz Fuego. A week after, they conducted a surprise remix of Tove Lo's single "Cool Girl". The remix was released as a surprise track on her second studio album, entitled Lady Wood, on October 28, 2016.
In late November 2016, it was revealed that the duo were working on their fifth extended play and that the single "Heat" was the lead single.
In December 2016, Wyclef Jean announced his third single "I Swear", featuring vocals from Young Thug, from his upcoming album, entitled Carnival Vol. III: Road to Clefication, which was said to be entirely produced by The Knocks. This was the third song that was produced by the duo with Wyclef for the album. Then, in the turn of the year, they announced that they were going to be collaborating with MNEK on their EP.
On January 4, 2017, they released the trailer for their fifth extended play, which was announced under the title Testify. A couple days later, they announced their second single from the EP, entitled "Trouble", featuring Absofacto, which is the solo project of musician Jonathan Visger; currently a member of American rock band Mason Proper. The song itself was released on January 13.[3]
On January 20, 2017, the official track listing for the EP was announced, which revealed Sam Nelson Harris, Absofacto and MNEK as confirmed collaborators on the EP, as well as new collaborators, such as Italian singer-songwriter Delacey, Tayla Parx, and Jamaican singer-songwriter Jerm.
The extended play was officially released on its scheduled date of 3 February 2017. A month after its release, the official video of their single "Trouble" was released on 9 March 2017. A series of remixes for the song followed on 6 April 2017, with people including former collaborator Treasure Fingers and Grammy Award-winning musician Stuart Price, credited as Jacques Lu Cont.
