Tel Yokneam

Tel Yokneam is a tell located between the modern settlements of Yokneam Illit and Yokneam Moshava, identified with the bilbical town of Yokneam.

Ancient city

In scripts

The city is mentioned in the list of cities that Pharaoh Thutmose III conquered in his campaign in 1468BCE.[1]

Yokneam is included in the list of Canaanite city-states that Joshua conquered[2] and later as a place inhabited by members of the Tribe of Levi.[3]

Archeology

In the sixtinth layer of Tel Yokneam, there are indications that the city was razed, and it is probable that the reason for the destruction was the invasion and occupation of Aram-Damascus under King Hazael. The city was rebuilt during the Aramean occupation.[4]
